With the world’s eyes focused on Myanmar, a country mourning the loss of thousands and seeking to keep thousands more alive in the wake of Hurricane Nargis, we at Bibles International pray all the more earnestly for the Burmese Christians with whom we work. Their strength in adversity has always inspired us, but never so much as in the face of this recent disaster. Baptist Mid-Missions has designated thousands of dollars in relief funds, being distributed by BI’s coordinator for our India and Myanmar translation projects. His Indian “complexion” has given him entrance where others cannot go. Bibles International is working with a sister agency to print portions of our translated Scriptures, to be distributed along with needed supplies. We share with you excerpts – in unedited Burmese English – from emails sent by Paul Van Hre, Bibles International Myanmar Society Coordinator. Thank you so much for all your concern. I was away from home to the mission field when came the badly hit cyclone to Yangon city and the rest of the places. The next day I could hardly get home. Actually to get home from there it takes only 5 hours. Because of this problem it took me the whole day to arrive home. Under the protection of God and because your prayer, our family and our missionaries except few are doing well by God’s grace. Most of the trees and houses of the tops roofs are completely gone. Yangon city remains only like bones without meat. Prices have gone high. Gas is about $15 for one gallon. We are very sad to let you know that over forty thousand dead bodies were found already without Christ. God must have some plan beside this problem. Among this tragic situation, the Lord keeps us alive and we are happy that we are in God’s hand. Our lives is nothing without Jesus Christ. We rejoiced at His great salvation. The cyclone hit our Bible school building not very badly but 5 roofs are completely gone. Near our Bible college where we have some members and unbelievers, houses were completely gone. Also two of our missionaries houses were also completely removed. They have no home right now and not enough food to eat. We help them whatever we could. We are taking care of 35 orphaned children. |
