Homegoing of BI Adjunct Consultant Colin Smith PDF Print E-mail

ImageHome was many places to Colin Smith. Home was his family, his students, his work. But home was especially the presence of God in his life, and because of that, he is now forever truly home. The BI staff was shocked to hear of Dr. Smith's death on Sunday, June 22. His life was abundant, filled with opportunities to use the gifts God gave him. One of those gifts and loves was biblical languages. Colin used that gift in the classroom, but he also used it "in the field." He was an adjunct translation consultant for Bibles International, taking several trips to northeast India to work on our projects there. His height and complexion made him stand out in that part of the world, and he was well-loved and well-respected by all who worked with him.

Not only did Dr. Smith spend time in India checking Bible translations against the original Hebrew, but he brought a taste of Bible translation into his classrooms. He became a liaison between BI and his students, finding tasks that BI needed to have done in the area of linguistics and biblical languages, and then allowing his students to accomplish them.
A recent article in our quarterly newsletter was written by Dr. Smith. It had value when he wrote it, and its value has now increased. It memorializes a man whose head and heart were equally full and equally surrendered to God. No wonder he will be greatly missed by us all. The BI staff expresses their sincere sympathy to Dr. Smith's family, and we will always be grateful that he was part of our family as well.
The family has requested that memorials be given to aid Bible translation particularly in northeast India. If you would like to contribute, please make checks out to Bibles International designated for the Colin Smith Northeast India Bible Translation Fund, or simply Memorial Colin Smith.
