Daniel Telfort: Trained to Train PDF Print E-mail
ImagewwwThree years ago, Daniel Telfort (second from left) was ready to leave his homeland of Haiti and travel to the US for training that would ultimately equip him for work with Bibles International. Only one thing stood in his way: the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). Passing it would be his ticket to America.
wwwThe day of the exam Daniel worked diligently but evidently not quickly enough, because only minutes remained in the timed exam when he came to the last 50-question section. He hurriedly (and randomly!) filled in the multiple-choice answers. When Daniel received notification that he not only passed, but that 48 of the last 50 questions had been answered correctly, he felt it was strong indication that God wanted him in the States.

wwwDaniel’s time here has been an intertwining of many things that are Bibles International. BI’s TTT (Trained to Train) Program provided some of the funding and secured other funds through BJU’s Timothy Program. Daniel is a very positive result of exactly what the TTT program was designed to do — equip nationals to return to their homeland for ministry.
wwwSecondly, Daniel’s first degree was in Bible translation, a graduate program designed by Bibles International and Bob Jones University. The degree combines instruction in Bible, linguistics, and technology to produce a person well-rounded in the skills unique to Bible translation. And just to make sure he was extra prepared, Daniel completed an M.Div. degree at BJU in December.
wwwThe month of January found Daniel not taking a break from studies, but receiving additional training and orientation from BI staff at the Grand Rapids office. The schedule was put on hold when the staff honored Daniel with a special luncheon before his departure date of January 12.
If the TOEFL was an indication of God’s direction, certainly all that has transpired since then has been strong confirmation that, yes, God wanted Daniel here. And now He is leading Daniel back to Haiti, where he will begin all that his training has prepared him to do — translate the Old Testament into Creole.
wwwWe covet your prayers as we endeavor to produce a conservative Bible translation in every language that needs one.
