Prayer Requests for May 14, 2008

1. Praise the Lord with us that a departure date has been set for the Hedges family. After years of preparation, Joshua and Barb Hedges and their five little girls plan to leave for Chad on June 8. Pray for a good trip over thousands of miles, and a smooth transition to life in Chad.

2. Pray for our brothers and sisters in Myanmar and China. Pray that the relief will reach those who need it most.

3. Thank you for your prayers for the East Michigan Banquet at Bethany Baptist Church in Grand Blanc on April 17. Clarissa Barton, 50 year veteran of BMM, presented the need for the new translation center in Chad, Africa. Gifts amounting to $10,500 came in that evening for the project. We praise the Lord for those who are catching the vision for the translation ministry in Chad. Continue to pray that others will respond to the ongoing need, so that the translation center might soon become a reality, which would facilitate the work there enormously.

4. Thank you for praying for our Asia ministry team. The American members have returned to their homes, having accomplished much work both in translation and literacy.

5. Thank you for praying for Jill Zwyghuizen, who completed her Master’s thesis and successfully defended her doctoral dissertation proposal. (We had previously asked prayer for her as she completed her doctoral thesis. That was incorrect.) Debbie King, another student preparing for ministry with us, successfully defended her doctoral dissertation proposal as well. Continue to pray for them and several others who are preparing for future ministry with BI.

6. Continue to pray for Beth Wittenberger. She has lately undergone additional medical tests in Ann Arbor. Pray for doctors who will be in consultation regarding ways to treat a condition that was only recently diagnosed. Ask the Lord to give her relief from ongoing discomfort.

7. Pray for Craig and Linda Throop who with their three younger children have been ministering in Papua New Guinea. Craig has been very ill. Because of the remoteness of the area, he had to be evacuated by air for medical treatment. He is now in the third medical facility, this one in Brisbane, Australia. We believe he had surgery yesterday to remove or break up a large kidney stone. He is alone in the hospital, since his wife stayed behind to care for their special needs son. Pray for the family as they are stretched out over two countries. Communication among family members and with us has been very difficult due to the isolation of the area in PNG in which they serve. Pray that through this challenging time they might sense the Lord’s presence, seeing His hand in all the details, and glorify Him.

8. Continue to pray for the four young BI missionaries who are raising their support teams in order to begin full time ministry with us. Their support amounts range from 17% to 32%. Ask the Lord to complete their support team in a timely manner if that would please Him.

PRAISE THE LORD WITH US!
