Prayer Requests for July 2, 2009
1. Pray for us and our missionary colleagues as many of us travel to Elyria, Ohio, next week for the Baptist Mid-Missions annual meeting. Pray for spiritual, emotional, and physical rest and encouragement as we meet together as a mission family.
2. Pray for the Joshua Hedges family. Joshua and Barb and their five girls ranging in age from two to ten will be returning to the US from Chad, Africa, at the request of Baptist Mid-Missions, for a medical furlough. Pray for the Hedges as they make decisions about packing, and pray for medical personnel who will be involved in addressing the needs of the family. Several of them have experienced bouts of malaria while in Chad.
3. Pray for missionary colleagues, the Tim Whatley family, serving the Lord in Peru, South America. They have experienced a number of challenges in their work and family. The computer used for translation work was stolen, resulting in the loss of all the information stored on it. They had been working on a concordance for the Quechua New Testament which is soon to be published. Wife Barb suffered a serious fracture of her ankle last year while in the US on furlough. Increasing pain in that ankle led the doctor to do a CT scan which revealed that some of the bone has collapsed in that ankle. She is walking with crutches and a boot. Further treatment may be necessary for her ankle. They are the only missionaries in their area right now, and keeping the many ministries going is almost overwhelming. Pray that the devil would be defeated as he challenges them in their personal lives and ministry.
4. Continue to pray for retired missionary Clarissa Barton who broke her hip on June 7. She is recovering at home after a partial hip replacement and rehab.
5. Continue to pray for our young missionaries on deputation, raising their support to join us full time in the ministry. Their support levels range from 28-63%. Pray for safety as they travel, and that the Lord would lead them to the churches He would have join their support team.
6. Continue to pray for our missionaries and/or spouses who have ongoing health needs. Virginia Katsion, wife of text editor Gordon Katsion, is in a rehab facility to regain strength following a recent hospitalization.
7. Pray for missionaries serving at Bibles International who are in need of additional support. Pray that the Lord will meet needs as He sees fit.
8. Continue to pray for the Lord’s provision of the remaining $140,000 needed to publish the 11 Scripture projects currently at the printer or soon to go there.
9. Pray for wisdom as missionary colleagues do research regarding the possibility of taking on new language projects around the world.
