Tenek Translation Workshop
Consultants Ross and Cathy Hodsdon along with Dr. Connie Champeon are conducting a translation workshop at Northland Baptist Bible College (Northland University) in Dunbar, Wisconsin, October 11-16. (8:30 AM-1 2:00 and 1:00 PM-4:00 PM) The Bibles International consultants will be checking the translation work of Fernando and Christy Angeles. Fernando was born in Mexico and grew up speaking Tenek. Today, he and his wife work among his people, preaching God’s Word and translating it into his native tongue.
In Mexico, the Angeles work with a national committee, translating the Greek text into their local language. They are careful to keep the meaning as close to the original as possible, yet conforming to the natural language patterns of their people. The Angeles meet regularly with consultants, to check their work. They have already finished about 20% of the New Testament. At this workshop, they will be checking the books of Acts and I John.
With the translated words and reference pages projected on screens, those attending are able to observe how the actual translation checking is done, step by step. The consultants welcome comments and questions. This is a unique opportunity to see how our translation work is done. The workshops are open to anyone who is interested. Come see mission work in action.
